Engineering Superintendent

 

THE ROLE

 

The purpose of the role is to provide technical management of the design activities of the project. The Engineering Superintendent will undertake the overseeing and approval of the deliverables for the Engineering project. Will work closely with the Nyrstar steering team to understand and resolve issues and achieve the project timing.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Coordinate project schedules, resources, equipment, and information to ensure projects proceed on time and within budget.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and technicians, to facilitate clear communication and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and designs to ensure they meet project specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Organize and lead project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies for moving forward, ensuring all team members are aligned with project goals.
  • Manage the procurement of materials and equipment required for engineering projects, including negotiating with suppliers to secure the best prices and delivery terms.
  • Implement quality control procedures to ensure the engineering work meets or exceeds technical standards and client expectations.
  • Document project progress, including technical reports, change orders, and project timelines, to maintain a clear record of project activities and decisions.
  • Facilitate the integration of sustainable and environmentally friendly practices into engineering projects to promote corporate social responsibility and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Monitor project progress and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate risks, Engineering Coordinators develop and implement effective contingency plans, ensuring projects stay on course.
  • Develops and implements corrective actions and process improvements to maintain a continuous improvement culture.
  • Develops and contributes to the implementation of capital projects.
  • Support project engineers with information gathering and project site visits.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, a concentration in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Technology is preferred.
  • Two to five years in a similar role.
  • Hands-on involvement in design, implementation, and oversight of engineering projects, coupled with a deep understanding of industry standards and practices. 
  • Allocate resources effectively and establish achievable deadlines are crucial for the smooth progression and timely completion of engineering projects.
  • Maintain high standards in engineering projects involves rigorous attention to detail and the implementation of thorough testing and evaluation processes.
  • Some exposure to metallurgical processes desire.
  • Highly demonstrated ability in conceptual and practical planning skills
  • Strong working ability with MS Office (Excel, spreadsheets, project planners, charting etc.)
  • Experience in SAP preferred.
