THE ROLE

The Reliability Superintendent is responsible for developing and executing the reliability strategy for all operational assets at the Clarksville smelter. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, sustained performance, optimized maintenance costs, and reduced operational risks. The position emphasizes the application of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles, along with the implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

•    Develop and implement strategies to enhance equipment reliability, achieve asset performance standards, extend asset lifespan and mitigate operational risks.
•    Oversee the reliability department within the asset management organization, leading a multidisciplinary team including reliability engineers, predictive maintenance technicians, lubrication specialists, and data and preventive maintenance analysts.
•    Develop, document and standardize best practices and technical specifications to enhance and sustain equipment reliability.
•    Provide technical support and expertise during troubleshooting activities and lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA's) initiatives. Collect and analyze data to identify recurring issues ("bad actors") and drive continuous improvement opportunities.
•    Collect and analyze equipment performance data (e.g., OEE, MTTR, MTBF) and production reports to identify trends, resolve recurring issues, and drive improvement initiatives aligned with the overall reliability strategy. 
•    Drive and support the use of advanced predictive maintenance technologies and non-destructive testing, along with machine learning (ML) to detect patterns and abnormalities on critical equipment. Lead the adoption of state-of-the-art condition-based monitoring solutions. 
•    Continuously improve and streamline preventive maintenance (PM) procedures to ensure alignment with equipment failure modes, risk levels, failure frequency, and cost-effectiveness.  
•    Manage the risk register for all physical assets and implement mitigation strategies-such as reengineering, replacement, preventive and predictive maintenance, redundancies, etc.-to effectively reduce overall asset risk.
•    When necessary, collaborate with Engineering and Capital Project in developing design specifications, installation guidelines, scopes of work (SOW), quality control/assurance audits, and commissioning plans for both new and existing equipment and systems.
•    Design and implement technical training programs for technicians based on departmental requirements. Maintain comprehensive training records and utilize a skills auditing system to track and assess employee competencies.
•    Actively support and participate in company safety initiatives and programs aimed at achieving zero accidents.


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

•    Bachelor's degree required - Mechanical, Reliability, Mechatronics Engineering.
•    +8 years' experience in an industrial setting and supervision.
•    Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
•    Facilitation and presentation skills.
•    Reliability-Centered-Maintenance (RCM) knowledge and skills.
•    SAP experience
•    Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) skills.
•    Interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
