Category Specialist – 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract – Port Pirie
Overview of the Role
Are you an experienced procurement professional with expertise in strategic sourcing and contract negotiation? Join Nyrstar, a global multi-metals business, as a Category Specialist at our Port Pirie site on a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this dynamic role, you will be a key player in delivering expert category management and implementing procurement strategies that drive impactful outcomes. You will collaborate with stakeholders, manage key supplier relationships, and oversee contracts for various categories, including steel fabrication, maintenance, compliance, electrical installations, and specialty chemicals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic category plans to achieve business objectives.
- Perform detailed market, tender, and category analysis to identify cost-saving and value-adding opportunities.
- Negotiate and implement contracts with suppliers to align with procurement and operational demands.
- Manage supply risks, mitigate business risks, and ensure compliance with commercial procurement practices.
- Build and nurture productive relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers, driving collaboration and long-term partnerships.
- Continuously review procurement processes to enhance efficiency and alignment with business goals.
- Advocate for the use of SAP functionality to streamline procurement activities.
- Promote a strong safety and productivity culture throughout procurement operations.
About You
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in Procurement, Business, Commerce, Law, or a related field (Master’s degree and/or CIPS certification is advantageous).
- At least 5 years of experience in procurement with a focus on category management and supplier negotiations.
- Strong business, contractual, and financial acumen, as well as a results-driven mindset.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and sustain effective relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to develop and implement procurement strategies and policies in complex environments.
- Sound knowledge of commercial procurement practices, category management principles, and supplier relationship management.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work both as part of a team and independently.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving skills with the capacity to identify challenges and develop innovative solutions.
