Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grad (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium, copper sulphate, paragoethite, lead sulphate, leach concentrate and sulphuric acid.

 

This is a rare opportunity to work on site in the resources industry, in a capital city location. 

 

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, you will be an integral member of our Asset Management Team, with a primary purpose to manage, lead and deliver the suite of capital projects at Nyrstar Hobart Smelter.

As a Project Engineer you will work closely with the production and maintenance teams and maintain high levels of safety and environmental compliance.

Key Duties and accountabilities:

  • Provide technical expertise to team members across a range of engineering projects
  • Manage and execute engineering projects from initiation to completion.
  • Identify, mitigate and manage project risks.
  • Weekly reporting/updates, cost control and project tracking.
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with key peers and Project Owners across the site.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits specifically checking compliance of established standards and procedures
  • Collaborate with consultants, suppliers and vendors to ensure services are provided within plan and specifications

 To be successful in this position you need to have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ year experience in project engineering, preferably in the mining/resources industry
  • Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills
  • Ability to achieve results in a demanding and challenging environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with project management tools and systems.
  • Experience in SAP would be highly regarded
