At Nyrstar, we’re seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Maintenance Planner to join our Port Pirie team. In this key role, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities, ensuring that all resources and materials are effectively managed to align with operational objectives.

Reporting to the Maintenance Planning Leader, this is a residential role based in Port Pirie, South Australia, working a 5/2 roster. Relocation assistance will be provided to the successful candidate, if required.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling:

  • Consolidate and create maintenance work orders from notifications, ensuring thorough and accurate documentation of tasks.
  • Develop detailed job plans that outline operations, resource allocation, and material procurement.
  • Plan and schedule a minimum of 80% of maintenance team capacity (KPI: Hours Scheduled / Hours Available) and provide weekly schedules segmented into daily tasks.
  • Keep maintenance systems up-to-date by proactively revising task lists and adjusting maintenance frequencies.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as Maintenance Team Leaders, Supervisors, and Superintendents, to ensure maintenance plans align with production goals.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and service providers to ensure the availability of necessary materials, spare parts, and contracted services.
  • Facilitate the preparation and submission of contractor documentation required for successful implementation of maintenance tasks.

Systems Support & Standards:

  • Maintain accurate records in the maintenance management system, ensuring all maintenance activities are documented and obsolete tasks are removed.
  • Provide detailed weekly reports on incomplete tasks, deviations from planned schedules, and compliance metrics (KPI: % Schedule Compliance).
  • Use SAP (if applicable) or similar maintenance management software for planning, tracking, and reporting purposes.

Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE):

  • Integrate safety and environmental standards into maintenance plans, fostering a safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace.
  • Take a proactive approach in identifying and mitigating hazards during the maintenance planning process.

About You

To excel in this role, you will possess:

  • A trade certificate or relevant qualification in mechanical or industrial fields (preferred).
  • Proven experience in maintenance planning and scheduling within industrial, heavy industry, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, enabling you to deliver effective and detailed maintenance plans within deadlines.
  • Experience with SAP or similar maintenance management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to perform under pressure and ensure compliance with tight schedules and targets.
  • Prior exposure to mining, smelting, metals processing, or other heavy industry environments (highly desirable).
