Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grade (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium metal, copper cementate, paragoethite, lead sulphate leach concentrate and sulphuric acid.

This is a rare opportunity to work on site in the resources industry, in a capital city location.

THE ROLE

Are you looking for casual employment with great opportunities to get outside as well as tackle some desk based duties? Do you have experience or an interest in environmental management at an industrial site?

A very exciting opportunity has become available to join our Hobart Environmental Team as a casual Environment Officer.

You will be working as part of a small specialist environment team, with the role primarily responsible for:

• Environmental monitoring and field work
• Data management and report writing
• Site inspections

You will be creative and innovative and will no doubt be able to teach us a thing or two.  We expect you will have excellent organisational, time management and communication skills and be proficient in the Microsoft Suite. 

This is a great opportunity to gain experience at a global organisation located within five minutes of the CBD. 

The job is flexible, and the days of work can be negotiated to best suit both parties. It is expected that typically, the role will include around 8 hours per week, with additional hours required in June and November of each year to enable to site’s major groundwater monitoring projects.

This is an entry level position and no prior experience is required – so should you be an undergraduate studying in an environmental/geological or other scientific field, this could be a great opportunity for you to see how industry operates first hand.
