Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grad (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium, copper sulphate, paragoethite, lead sulphate, leach concentrate and sulphuric acid.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Condition Monitoring Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll use your skills and knowledge to improve the reliability of our plant, equipment, and processes, driving performance improvement and ensuring safety and environmental standards are maintained.

 

Key Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring safety, health, and environmental compliance.
  • Be the technical expert onsite in the Condition Monitoring field.
  • Conduct regular vibration data collection and alaysis using portable analyser.
  • Implement best practice vibration data collection and analysis using fixed and wireless sensors.
  • Interrogate data and monitor equipment trends daily to capture faults earlier in the P-F curve.
  • Identify and initiate projects to improve rotating equipment safety and reliability.
  • Investigate and resolve vibration / lubrication issues on equipment.
  • Reducing equipment maintenance costs by developing value-added maintenance strategies.
  • Provide technical and problem-solving support to maintenance and operations teams.

 

To be successful in this position you need to have:

  • A relevant engineering degree at Bachelor's level or above.
  • Condition Monitoring Qualifications and experience (e.g. CAT III VA, Thermography, Machine Lubricant analyst certification)
  • Experience with Emerson AMS2140 vibration analyser is preferred
  • Ability and enthusiasm to drive and implement improvements in the CBM field 
  • Prior experience in both project and maintenance engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities coupled with strong analytical skills.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with an ability to influence.
  • Capacity to perform well under pressure and thrive in a demanding environment.
  • Aptitude for analysing equipment data and recognizing trends.
  • Experience with SAP (preferred).
  • Experience in the heavy industry sector (desired).
