THE ROLE:

Join our team as a Payroll Officer and play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of payroll for our organisation. Based at our smelter in Hobart, this full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Reporting to the Regional Payroll Specialist, you will be an integral part of the HR team, supporting essential payroll operations while contributing to the success of our daily administrative and logistics functions. KEY ACCOUTABILITIES

  • Support end-to-end processing of monthly payroll for Australian employees.
  • Maintain and update employee records in the payroll system, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and changes in salary.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations, payroll journals, and reporting requirements for Finance, Operations, Human Resources and external bodies as required.
  • Provide administrative support, including filing, record management, and maintaining payroll documentation.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and key internal and external stakeholders in a professional, confidential, and timely manner.
  • Ensure payroll data integrity and compliance with statutory and company requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within payroll systems and processes.

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in payroll processing within a large organisation, with a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll functions.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, tax laws, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when working with numerical and confidential data.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to use formulas, manage spreadsheets, perform data reconciliation, and generate reports.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and provide support to employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and ensure data integrity at all times.
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP/payroll systems is highly desirable.
