Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grad (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium, copper sulphate, paragoethite, lead sulphate, leach concentrate and sulphuric acid.

THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Mechanical Statutory Engineer to join our team in Hobart. In this role you'll use your skills and knowledge to manage the governance of the Hobart Plant’s statutory obligations and play a pivotal role in leading audits, technical and engineering support for our Asset Management Department. You will be responsible for upholding quality standards and drive excellence in a dynamic, fast moving environment.
Key Duties and Accountabilities:
- Provide specialist advice on the application of Australian and Company standards, along with providing technical advice on engineering related matters
- Management of all site registered equipment including forecasting requirements with Work Safe Tasmania (WST)
- Provide input to Nyrstar Group capital and asset management improvement and review activities.
- Development of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), maintenance work instructions and Hobart Procedures.
- Develop and improve systems and processes for the ongoing management of statutory requirement and site safety risks.
- Be abreast of changes in regulations and industry standards to ensure the company remains in compliance
- Conducting internal audits and assessments to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
To be successful in this position you need to have:
- A relevant engineering degree at Bachelor's level or above
- Auditing or a detailed appreciation of auditing. Lead Auditor in OHS/WHS Management Systems (an advantage)
- Investigation training – ICAM or equivalent methodology
- Ability and enthusiasm to drive and implement improvements
- Prior experience in both project and maintenance engineering.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities coupled with strong analytical skills.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with an ability to influence.
- Capacity to perform well under pressure and thrive in a demanding environment.
- Experience with SAP (preferred).
- Experience in the heavy industry sector
