Overview of the role

An exciting opportunity is now open for a Metallurgist to join the Technical Projects team.

With your technical knowledge of Nyrstar Port Pirie site processes (or similar) you will be called upon to assist in a variety of situations to manage technical projects, assist with more larger complex projects and work as a consultant to give robust, practical and problem solving advice to the operations when required.

Your experience will enable you to identify areas of technical improvements and provide solutions to processing/metallurgical problems  within the plants and for the portfolio of projects. This is a site wide role that encompasses the entire operations, therefore the successful incumbent must have a knowledge of the entire site operations and interactions between the plants, or the ability to quickly learn and understand.

Reporting to the Principal Metallurgist – Technical Projects, this position operates on a Monday-Friday roster.  Relocation assistance will be provided to the successful candidate, if required.

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

• Provide technical advice based on sound literature, data, logic and process knowledge
• Manage projects through the concept, feasibility and commissioning stages as identified through the Tactical Plan
• Collaborate with senior personnel in the plant to ensure the projects are completed within agreed timeframes and budgets and to agreed expectations
• Develop business cases and concepts for future developments to debottleneck the site
• Pilot/trial commission strategic projects with the operational Principal/Senior Metallurgists

Qualifications/Experience & Abilities:

• Formal graduate technical qualifications in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or similar
• 2+ years in a plant based Chemical Engineering role or similar is desirable
• Experience in a similar project role is desirable
• Experience in the mining / resources industry or acid production facilities is highly regarded
• Superior skill with Microsoft Excel is essential
• Experience in SAP is desirable
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with the ability to communicate effective at all levels of the organisation
