Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre.

The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grad (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium, copper sulphate, paragoethite, lead sulphate, leach concentrate and sulphuric acid.

This is a rare opportunity to work on site in the resources industry, in a capital city location.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Senior Maintenance Engineer to oversee the management and delivery of engineering projects at our Hobart smelter. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring safety leadership, scheduling, risk-based prioritization, cost management, and control, as well as communicating strategies and fostering engagement within the Asset Management team, which includes operations, technical, project and maintenance teams.

 

Key Duties and accountabilities:

  • Manage and deliver engineering projects including scoping and estimating, project management, planning and design, procurement, construction supervision, testing and commissioning, and operational handover.
  • Pro-actively working to identify potential project risks and issues; and taking action to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to build collaborative relationships through trust and integrity
  • Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards
  • Drive a strong safety/high performance culture across the projects

 

To be successful in this position you need to have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years working in heavy industry
  • Experience in boiler operation highly regarded
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in leading and delivering multidisciplinary major projects
  • Experience in the mining/resources industry is desirable, particularly in an operating/production environment
  • Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills
  • Ability to establish rapport, develop and maintain a sound relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to achieve results in a demanding and challenging environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • A strong safety focus and be highly motivated
  • Experience in Project Management Software and SAP would be highly regarded
