Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. This is a rare opportunity to work on site in the resources industry, in a capital city location.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Asset Management Team. About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Project Lead, you will be an integral member of our Asset Management Team, with a primary purpose to manage, lead and deliver the suite of capital projects at Nyrstar Hobart Smelter.

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated team where continuous improvement is the norm. Your relevant tertiary qualifications coupled with your demonstrated skills and drive to deliver quality outcomes will see you succeed in this role.

 

Key Duties and accountabilities:

  • Manage and execute engineering projects from initiation to completion.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain project schedules, ensuring milestones and critical path activities are achieved. 
  • Weekly reporting/updates, cost control and project tracking.
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with key peers and Project Owners across the site.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits specifically checking compliance of established standards and procedures
  • Offer technical support for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Uphold compliance with mechanical standards and foster a safety-first culture.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in project engineering preferably within heavy industry.
  • Proven capability in managing end-to-end mechanical engineering projects.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to achieve results in a demanding and challenging environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with project management tools and systems.
  • Experience in SAP would be highly regarded.
