Senior Structural Integrity Engineer
Overview of the Role
The Senior Structural Integrity Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the structural integrity of the site while overseeing a prioritized system of remediation for at-risk structures. The role involves managing the structural integrity register, conducting safety audits, providing remedial recommendations, and contributing to capital projects. The engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants to deliver safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions. The position is based in Port Pirie and reports to the Head of Engineering Services and Projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the site’s structural integrity register.
- Conduct 2-yearly structural audits of all plant assets to identify at-risk structures, with remediation prioritized using Nyrstar's risk matrix.
- Promptly attend to and investigate break-in structural issues and safety incidents to ensure safe operations.
- Provide scopes of work (SoW) and determine repair methodologies
. - Participate in the development of project charters and contribute to Capital Expenditure Approvals (CEA).
- Assist in project execution, lead quality control, and manage project close-outs.
- Ensure adherence to Nyrstar's safety and environmental policies, contributing to a safe, healthy working environment.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as mech/elect engineers, reliability engineers, and superintendents.
- Engage with external consultants, suppliers, and contractors to deliver cost-effective and practical engineering solutions.
About You
Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (essential).
- 5-10 years of relevant engineering/business improvement experience, preferably in mining, smelting, or petrochemical industries.
- Chartered Professional Engineer status or actively working towards it (desirable).
- Leadership qualifications or equivalent practical experience (desirable).
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in SAP or other standard business systems (desirable).
- Expertise in structural design, inspections, audits, and risk assessment.
- Strong organizational and technical writing skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports.
- Skilled in developing practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.

- Ability to lead teams, hold accountability, and foster diverse perspectives.
