Join Our Team
Nyrstar Hobart is seeking a motivated Metallurgist / Process Engineer to join our Technical Team. This role offers hands-on technical work in a complex production facility with opportunities for growth, and the benefits of living in Hobart. You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues to support daily operations, improve processes, and contribute to ongoing plant performance.

About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, you will support day-to-day plant operations through process monitoring, metallurgical accounting, test work, improvement projects and troubleshooting across our Production Departments. You will help optimise metal recovery, product quality, and overall plant performance.


Key Duties and Accountabilities
• Monitor daily process performance, including throughput, recovery, reagent use, and product quality.
• Work with Operations and the Senior Metallurgist to identify, investigate and resolve process issues.
• Support improvement projects and metallurgical test programs.
• Maintain accuracy in metallurgical accounting systems and data collection.
• Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Environment teams to meet production and quality targets.


What We're Looking For
• Degree in Metallurgical / Process / Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in heavy industry in either mining or processing.
• An understanding of metallurgical principles, process engineering and plant optimisation
• Good software skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases.
• Experience with metallurgical accounting systems, mass balancing and process modelling.
• Experience in managing process improvement projects.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well within a technical and operational teams and manage multiple tasks.
